Thomas E. Hayes is a highly experienced legal professional who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role as Chief Strategic Officer and General Counsel for CDL Electric, Inc. and Serrmi Products, LLC. With over 30 years of legal experience, Hayes is a highly respected figure in the transportation industry, known for his exceptional insight and perspective. In his current role, Hayes is responsible for overseeing contract management and compliance, as well as developing and obtaining Serrmi’s DBE status as a transportation manufacturer.
Prior to joining CDL Electric, Inc., Hayes served as Assistant General Counsel for Watco Companies, an international transportation company, from 2011 to 2020. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing construction contracts, liability claims, workers’ compensation, FELA, Longshoreman, and Jones Act cases. Before that, Hayes worked as a trial attorney in both Missouri and Kansas, honing his skills as a litigator and developing his legal expertise.
Hayes is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy from Truman State University, where he graduated Cum Laude. Hayes is licensed to practice law in both Missouri and Kansas, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Eighth and Tenth Circuits. He has also served as the past President of the Crawford County Bar Association and has received numerous honors for his achievements, including All-American Honors QB Division II and MIAA MVP for three consecutive years from 1981 to 1983, as well as Academic All-American Honors during the same period.
